If you're considering braces, you probably have a lot of questions about how they work. Navan Dental is here to help! In this blog post, our dentist will discuss some of the background to treatment with them. From how they apply pressure to the teeth to the time they take to work. We'll also cover some of the different types of braces available and what each one can do for your smile. So if you're curious about orthodontics Navan, keep reading!

How do braces work?

The simple answer is that braces use controlled force to move teeth into the correct position. However, there's a lot more to it than that. The treatment generally lasts for about two years with traditional braces, during which time you'll need to visit our team for regular adjustments. However treatment time can be a lot shorter with other types of teeth straightening devices depending on the condition of your teeth.

We will first assess the teeth and record the severity of your misalignment. We will then create a treatment plan that includes the type of braces best suited for your individual case.

Once we have placed the braces on your teeth, they will need to be adjusted periodically to ensure that they are continuing to move your teeth in the right direction. You will also need to take good care of your braces to get the most out of treatment.

Different types of braces available

The type of braces you receive will be based on your individual needs as determined by our orthodontist. The three main types of braces are metal, ceramic, and invisible.

Traditional metal braces are the most common type. They are made of high-grade stainless steel and attach to the front of your teeth. But they have their drawbacks too, such as being the most visible type of braces and can sometimes be uncomfortable. However, they are extremely proficient at correcting most types of dental misalignment.

Ceramic braces are made of clear or tooth-coloured brackets and are less noticeable than metal braces. But because they are not as strong as metal braces, more pressure is needed when attaching them to your teeth, which can sometimes result in discomfort.

Alternatively, we also provide treatment with the Inman aligner which is a transparent device concentrated on the front teeth. This is suitable for mild cases of dental misalignment.

How long does it take for braces to work?

The length of time it takes for braces to work varies from person to person. It depends on the severity of your case and how well you follow our dentist's instructions. In general, though, it usually takes about one to two years for orthodontics Navan to work.

You will get a more useful estimate of treatment time once our dentist has had a chance to examine your mouth and teeth.

How much do braces cost?

The cost of braces varies depending on the type of braces you choose and the severity of your case. In general, metal braces are the most affordable option, especially for children, while invisible braces are the most popular among working professionals.

Orthodontics Navan treatment below the age of 16 is often free, but only after being assessed by the local dental officer, as part of standard national screening.

If you're an adult, the cost of braces will be given an all-inclusive quote after a consultation.
