Could dental implants Navan be the right path for me?

Tuesday, 8th February, 2022

Maybe as a child or teen you were in an accident and chipped a tooth? Maybe over time your tooth health declined leaving you with missing teeth and you don’t want to turn to dentures, bridges or crowns. Whatever the reason, we here at Navan Dental feel all our patients have the right to feel confident about their smile no matter what their age and think we have the perfect solution for you, with dental implants Navan.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants Navan are replacement tooth roots supporting false teeth. They are fixtures that are placed into the bone and used as anchors to fix strong, permanent or removable replacement teeth. They are used frequently as they provide patients with a better aesthetic finish. Dental implants Navan look and feel like natural teeth, as they are created to work with the body's natural structure.

Other benefits of dental implants

Patients have said that implants are very comfortable and can be preferable to having the discomfort of removable appliances. Dental implants also function as normal teeth do, so there is no need for worry, discomfort or embarrassment when it comes to eating or drinking.

Some other teeth replacements can impair your speech, whereas with implants there’s no worry about this, which aids self-esteem. Being able to give our patients back their confident smile is really important to us, as it has been widely researched that a confident smile improves other issues such as anxiety.

What is the process of delivering implants?

In order for a patient to be fitted with dental implants you need to have enough bone mass and density - both of these will be checked by our dentist at the surgery when you come in for your consultation.

After the initial implant has been placed into the bone it may need time to heal and before you are able to be provided with the visible part of your tooth restoration.

A crown is created to attach to the fitting, crowns are made with porcelain or metal, the fitting is made to look as close to your natural teeth as possible.

The replacement tooth is then screwed onto the fitting and cemented into place. This process can take months to complete, but we feel the results are worth your time. Implants can also be used to stabilise dentures and bridges.

How do I care for my dental implants?

It’s very important that once fitted you take great care of your implants as they require even more care and attention whilst cleaning than natural teeth. Problems with dental implants usually stem from gum disease. You should pay extra attention to how you brush your implanted tooth. Brushing well does not mean brushing harder, you need to take time to brush round the whole of the tooth. You need to floss daily, plaque and bacteria very quickly build up in the mouth which can lead to gum disease. If you have issues with flossing we highly recommend dental sticks or interdental brushes. If you are a smoker we also recommend trying to stop before receiving dental implants, as smoking is a leading cause of gum disease.
