Tuesday, 16th November, 2021

Misaligned teeth and jaws cause a myriad of problems and difficulties to patients. We at Navan Dental will assess your particular condition and discuss the various options available. Correcting misaligned teeth not only improves your smile but also allows you to chew your food properly and correct any speech impediments that you may have.

See our dentist as soon as possible

Here at Navan Dental, we encourage parents to bring their children in for their first visit as early as they turn a year old. This is vital to help children have healthy teeth and gums throughout their life. We take this initial visit so seriously that we even offer a free consultation if your child is in primary school. This visit allows your child to experience the sights and smells of our surgery, and the more often they visit, the more relaxed they will become.

We are also afforded the opportunity to examine your child's oral cavity and identify any problems that may be manifesting. If we do identify any misalignment problems, our resident dentist Dr McMorrow will be able to discuss the right treatment and an effective time to commence the procedure.

Do I need orthodontics Navan?

If you have crooked or gapped teeth, this can cause you to experience difficulty chewing, and you may feel embarrassed to smile. Overbites, underbites and protruding teeth are all conditions that can be corrected using orthodontics Navan.

Your lower or upper jaw may be misaligned, which can cause your jaw muscles to ache or result in an annoying clicking sound whenever you speak or eat. Our dental team will do a thorough examination by taking x-rays and scans of your entire oral cavity so that we have a complete 3D image of the inside of your mouth. Only once we have done this can we assess your condition and discuss a suitable course of treatment specifically for you.

Some of the possible treatments

If you have an overcrowded mouth, it may be necessary to remove one or two teeth before treatment. We have several different appliances that we can use depending on your condition.

A removable brace can be removed for cleaning and consists of a plate with various delicate wires and springs that move the teeth using gentle pressure. A fixed brace, on the other hand, uses flexible wire joints and brackets, which also move the teeth to the desired location. A functional brace is used to correct misaligned jaws and makes use of the power generated by the jaw muscles to correct certain problems.

The development of braces has seen some innovative new inventions and the clear brace is amongst the latest appliances available. These braces or aligners take the form of what is best described as a clear gum shield. A series of these aligners can be designed specifically for you, all with a different orientation, and you will need to wear each aligner for three to four weeks before moving on to the next one. Your teeth will gently be moved with each aligner, and this treatment will take about nine months to a year on average to be completed.

You can have a radiant smile

We are confident that we have the tools and the knowledge to correct your orthodontic problems, and we can help you to achieve a smile that you can be proud of with orthodontics Navan.
