Preparing for your child’s visit to dentist Navan

Tuesday, 10th December, 2019

Taking your child for their first dentist Navan visit can be daunting, but also for you as the anxious parent! But we understand this at Navan Dental and we always strive to put you and your children at ease before any check-up or procedure.

Here we will run you through what you can expect as the parent when you bring your child in for their first dentist Navan visit, and how you can begin to prepare your child beforehand. If you have any questions after reading this you're welcome to get in touch! Let's get started!

At what age should I bring my child in for an assessment?

If you're a new parent, you know how exciting it can be to see each milestone that your child reaches. As soon as your child begins to get teeth, you should start making plans to see dentist Navan. When your child turns one, then you should be giving us a call to bring your little one in for a check-up and assessment. We usually won't carry out any procedures at this time, but it's a great way for your child to meet us and become familiar with dental work.

If your child is older than one or is already in school, bring him or her in too! We can check on their overall dental health, and plan with you regarding any further treatment.

How can I prepare my child for a visit to the dentist Navan?

Most things your child learns in early life, they learn from you, their parent. They will learn how to behave at the dinner table, or how to tuck their shirts in for school. As a parent, you will also be responsible for showing your child how to hold a toothbrush, the correct motion for brushing their teeth and the importance of healthy gums and teeth. As part of their dental education, bringing your child in to see us at Navan Dental means that we won't be an unfamiliar concept to him or her.

If your child is a little older, or even into their teen years, you should speak to them at home about their concerns, fears or overall expectations when it comes to a dental visit. Find storybooks about dentist visits, play games, you can use the opportunity to tell your child about your first dentist visit (if you remember it!).

As a parent, what can you expect during the first visit?

After your child has seen us at Navan Dental, we'll chat with you about what we have noticed, and think the way forward should be. If your child's dental health is in tip-top shape, then great! Keep doing the good job you're doing.

Your dentist might ask you a few questions about your child's dental habits like how often does your little one brush their teeth, what kind of toothbrush or toothpaste do you use, and has he or she picked up the habit of sucking their thumb?

Medical card holders are most welcome at Navan Dental. For more information, get in touch with us.
